WICHITA WILD
Large areas of a city park were replanted to native vegetation to a habitat for wildlife as a native effort of various civic groups in Toledo, Iowa, USA. They are now monitoring bird populations within the restored area. A similar project on a 'larger scale, 'Wichita Wild', has been developed by the Wichita Park System in Kansas. Some 500 acres (200 hectares) in two parks have been designated as wild areas. Nine other parks in town have also had portions set aside. EVER THOUGHT OF GROWING YOUR OWN HOUSE?
Rudolf Doernach, Director of the Biotecture Institute, a West German non-profit research cooperative, has devoted 21 years to the idea (of biological architecture) since his first publication 'Living Shelter' in 1957. Rudolf has evolved a new vocabulary to describe his research:
Biotecture - the design of multi-purpose plant shelters for man, including conservation and energy generating capacity.
Urbiotecture - urban biotecture; the design of plant combinations which use existing architecture as a substructure.
Agritecture - house fanning; a new branch of agriculture. The growth of buildings and building components (biotectonic Sod structures can in two months).
